General Dentistry
General Dentistry includes preventative care, the diagnosis and treatment of tooth pain, decay, and gum disease. Routine Check-ups & Cleanings
Patients are typically required to see their dentist every six months. This check-up should include x-rays and a routine cleaning. These appointments serve to ensure that the patient’s oral health is monitored and to ensure that all dental work is long lasting.
Fillings
When decay or cavities are diagnosed and are still small they will require a filling. The procedure includes the removal of the affected area and the replacement with an inert tooth colored material to return the patient back to normal esthetics and function.
Crowns
A crown is prosthetic needed when more than fifty percent the original tooth is missing or a root canal has been performed. The tooth is treated by shaving the outer portion of the tooth and replaced with an esthetic cemented covering to protect the core of tooth and restore function. Crowns can also serve a cosmetic procedure such as veneers.
Root Canals
When a cavity has reached the nerve of the tooth, a root canal must be performed to heal the tooth. This procedure requires the removal of the nerve, which is within the tooth. The canal/canals are then filled to ensure a proper seal from any and all bacteria. Your general dentist can perform simple root canals. A specialist must complete more complex root canals.
Bridges
This dental procedure is performed to replace a missing tooth when a person is deemed not be a candidate for a dental implant surgery. It requires the teeth next to the missing tooth to be crown and provide the missing tooth. This prosthetic will look, feel and work like a normal tooth.
