What Are Dental Crowns?

Dental Crowns are prosthetics that fit over the tooth like a cap in order to protect and reinforce the tooth. Crowns are one of many very common dental services we provide for sensitive or slightly damaged teeth.

Traditional methods for creating crowns usually require a mold sent off to a laboratory when the crown is produced. While it is being made, temporary crowns are put in place. The process usually takes 3 to 4 weeks and requires multiple visits.

The Dental and Denture Care Center has its own on-site laboratory and can produce your restorations as are they are needed in a single visit. So, you won’t have to return until your next routine dental exam.

Frequently Asked Questions About Dental Crowns

How Long Do Crowns Take To Get?

For many traditional dental offices, getting a crown fitted takes at least two office visits. The Dental and Denture Care Center has its own on-site laboratory. So we can fit and build your crown in the same visit.

What Do I Do If My Crown Breaks?

If your crown cracks, call our office immediately to schedule a repair. For emergency appointments, we can often see you the same day. However, if your crown has fallen out, do not attempt to replace the crown or fit it back in place. Bring it with you to your appointment. Your tooth may become sensitive or experience some pain until we have a chance to repair and replace the crown.

Can A Crown Be Cleaned Or Whitened?

Because of the specialized material a crown is made from, we recommend that you do not try to have your teeth professionally whitened if you have a crown. Our crowns don’t become stained. They are made from a stain resistant material and will retain its color. At home whitening strips will not affect the integrity of the crown.

Are Crowns Expensive?

There are a lot of variables that can determine the cost of your crowns. The material the crown is made with, the location of the tooth as well as the size of the tooth can all affect the cost of getting a crown.

According to CostHelper, porcelain that is fused to metal crowns can run between $875 to $1,400 per tooth. However,  gold crowns fused to metal crowns can run on average $830 to 2,465 per tooth. An all porcelain crown could run between $800 to $3,000 per tooth.
